Understanding Alcohol Ink – Lesson #2 Proportion Between Alcohol and Dye

Here is the second lesson in my new series of short videos to help you understand the "why" when working with Alcohol Inks. Comprehending the "why" will help you unlock the mysteries of Alcohol Ink.

Alcohol Inks are Dyes in Alcohol Solution. As the Alcohol Evaporates it changes our medium. In this lesson we compare different inks, different brands and find out what happens as the alcohol evaporates. Please enjoy and questions are welcome.

  1. Cheryl, it’s sure worth adding some alcohol to the markers and see what happens. Here’s an article that says it will work https://lifehacker.com/5878777/revive-dried-out-permanent-markers-with-rubbing-alcohol. Here’s one more. https://www.wikihow.com/Revive-Dried-Out-Markers You should be good. Let me know what happens.

  2. Hi Sheryl. I stumbled onto your site while looking to find out about purchasing refills dried-up Spectrum Noir markers. I have a number of markers which have dried out, and although I have contacted the manufacturer and the distributor, I have not had any responses. After watching this video I am wondering if adding alcohol to the markers would be sufficient to reactivate them? I would appreciate any comments or thoughts you might have.
