Understanding Alcohol Ink – Lesson #1 The Role of the Alcohol

I’m working on a new series of short videos to help you understand the “why” when working with Alcohol Inks.¬†Comprehending the “why” will help you unlock the mysteries of Alcohol Ink.

In order to grasp the difference between Alcohol Ink and other medium we need to see the affect of the alcohol itself. Please enjoy and questions are welcome.

  1. I want to use my painted tile for a back splash in my kitchen. What is the best sealer to use to protect them?

  2. How can I paint wine glasses and make them dish washer safe? Can I bake them in oven? I tried a clear acrylic sealer but it’s not really clear…I need help…thank you

  3. Sheryl, does this mean I can paint a painting using both alcohol-based and water-based inks? I didn’t even know there were water-based inks! So many times I try to add an element to an alcohol ink painting; and I ruin it because the new addition runs into the original painting. This changes EVERYTHING !! Thank You, Thank You !

    • Hi Barbara, I found the waterbased inks to use with children. I haven’t combined the two. It would be interested to see what happens. There are lots of waterbased markers coming on the market now. Often they have pigment instead of dye. More and more questions.

  4. Oh, the student gallery. . . surprised to see my work. Thank you.

  5. Sheryl, I watched, “Understanding Alcohol Ink”. I have recommended your site every time I get the chance. I have been showing some of my paintings at art and craft fairs and they generate a lot of questions and interest in the medium. This video will help everyone have a clearer understanding. Thanks for your efforts.

  6. Very clear and informative
